In February 2012 the first CDM projects in Serbia were registered by the UNFCCC. Amongst the four registered projects are three large wind farms developed by Energy Changes. We are especially proud of the smooth and efficient validation and registration process, which made it possible to have the projects registered only 8 months after they were published for global stakeholder consultation.

The client´s joint venture “Ecofrigo” is operating a de-manufacturing plant of the end-of-life refrigeration appliances in Celaya, state Guanajuato, Mexico. Thanks to an advanced European technology the de-manufacturing process has been supplemented by the refrigeration gasses extraction step.The refrigeration gases, especially those used in the old appliances, are so called “freons” (chlorfluorcarbons). They have a strong adverse effect on the Earth´s ozone layer and therefore are named as the ozone depleting substance (ODS). Moreover, they are very potent greenhouse gases, too.

The owner is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), a Dubai Government-run company, responsible for power generation, water production, transmission and distribution of power and water in the Emirate of Dubai. DEWA operates 8 power plants with a total installed capacity of 7,361 MW and 7 desalination plants with an installed capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres of water per day. The project will develop a small scale photovoltaic power plant on a site located south-east of the city of Dubai, on a gravel plain surrounded by the sand dunes.

The owner is the Dubai Aluminium Company Ltd (Dubal). It commenced operation in 1979. Currently the plant has capacity of more than 950,000 MT of aluminium per year. The plant is located in Dubai, part Jebel Ali, in the United Arab Emirates.The chillers are installed in almost every building within the aluminium plant to provide the cooling for the main production, supporting processes, maintenance and other buildings. Existing chillers use the vapour compression chiller (VCC) technology.

By uploading to the UNFCCC web site on May 15th 2012 the validation of the CDM Programme of Activities (=PoA) “Small Hydro Power Plants in Albania and Serbia” started. In cooperation with company denkstatt GmbH, Energy Changes is developing the carbon component for a couple of small hydro power plants in the Balkan region . The programme is financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Coordinating entity of the CDM PoA is enso hydro GmbH.

A 15MWel biomass CHP is being constructed on the grounds of the sawmill of Sao Hill Industries Ltd. in the Iringa region in Tanzania. The fuel for this CHP will be wood waste from the own production as well as waste from small sawmills in the region. The heat produced will be used for the drying of wood products, the electricity will cover the own demand and the surplus (approx. 10MW) will be fed into the Tanzanian electricity grid.

The wind farm Casimcea consists of 4 clusters of wind turbines located around the village Casimcea in eastern Romania. Once fully implemented, the 77 turbines with a total capacity of 201 MW will annually generate approximately 560 GWh of emission free electricity. This will replace electricity from fossil fuel based power plants in the Romanian grid and reduce up to 520,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year
